I met Claire and her excited bridesmaids on a drizzly Saturday in October at Mercure St Paul’s hotel where they were getting ready, the rain did not dampen anyone’s spirits and Claire looked like a stunning movie star in her silk gown and cathedral length veil from Choola.
Claire borrowed her Mum’s pearl jewellery and sapphire ring as her something blue. We had time for a few photos in the Winter Gardens before the short journey through the city centre to Cutler’s Hall.
Meanwhile, Ali and his family were getting ready at his parent’s house, a hearty breakfast was had by all and the men fought over the ironing board to make sure their shirts were just right!
The hall looked amazing and guests were gathering excitedly for the beautiful bride to arrive. Ali was kept entertained by his ushers and best men while waiting for Claire to enter the ceremony room. The ceremony was lovely with personal readings and music, when the happy couple were pronounced husband and wife much clapping, cheering and traditional music was played as they left the room. Guests then feasted on mini burgers and canapes before they all gathered on the grand staircase for a group photo.
There was just time for some shots of Claire and Ali alone before they were announced into the main hall. The hall where the reception was held was huge with giant chandeliers, tables were named after the couple’s favourite films and in front of the main table was an imposing tower of blue and white cupcakes from Fancie.
The speeches were both funny and emotional with the bride giving a speech about her new husband. Poor Ali took a bit of a ribbing for his forgetfulness and his driving skills in the best man’s speech!
The happy couple took to the dancefloor with all their family and friends for the first dance and later were joined by Sophie Mei who got everyone doing some bellydancing.
We feel lucky to have witnessed such a wedding between two people clearly meant to be together and who are so lucky to have so many friends and family who were over the moon to see them become husband and wife.
