Lake District

Paul and I recently returned to the Lake District to visit our families. Having lived there over ten years ago now we feel like we can return to visit and really appreciate the spectacular scenery, we would love to photograph a wedding in the Lake District. Of course it wouldn’t be the same unless it rained and true to form it rained all week, we were glad we brought our thermals!

We stayed with Paul’s mum in their house near Loweswater. In between rain showers we visited Keswick for a trip to Ye Olde Friars (the best sweet shop in Cumbria), Ambleside for some home made gingerbread and a chance to see the graves of Wordsworth’s family and Hawkeshead where we could only muster a short wander to a pub with a roaring fire and lovely chips!

Paul and I also took a trip to the seaside at St Bees where we were probably the only people brave enough to brace ourselves against the gale force winds and stinging air. In hindsight it probably was not a good idea to get really close to the sea to get that all important shot, I did end up soaked through!

Paul was in his element hanging off cliff faces, waiting for over an hour next to a sign for a car to illustrate a photo and at one point actually wading into a lake to commit to getting the shot.

It was lovely to see our families, next time we go back will be to see my new niece or nephew, due just before Christmas!
